Chromecast is a media streamer device that was created by Google and which normally costs 35 dollars (30 dollars at WalMart). With this device, the users can stream online channels such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO GO and many more, from their computers/Android devices to their TVs. To enhance your experience with Chromecast, we’ll give you a few tips and tricks you might find useful.
Play music on TV
Use your Chrome to play music through your TV, by downloading the Google Play Music application for Android or iOS. After opening it, select the cast icon and Chromecast from the list of devices and choose what song you want to listen to. You can create your own collection of songs or join Google’s subscription service and pay around 10 dollars per month.
Play Games on TV
The Chromecast isn’t a console like the PlayStation 4, but it allows you to play cool games such as Jeopardy (trivia game) or Just Dance 2015 to test your dancing skills, and why not, you can become nostalgic with Sonic Jump Fever. You will need to download these games or one of the other 100 games found in the Google Play store, on your Android or iOS mobile device and use it as a controller to play on your TV.
View photos on TV
Instead of using projectors, you can view photos with Chromecast, but you will need to download applications such as PhotoCast. With this application, you will cast photos from your Android or iOS device, from Facebook, Google+ or iCloud.
Drive-in movies
Chromecast can’t support local media playback, which means that you can’t play files you saves in the cloud, but there is a media management app called Plex with which you can stream movies, music and photos on your TV via the Chromecast. This application will organize the content from your phone or tablet and send it to Chromecast.
Guest Mode
Let your guests decide what to watch on your TV, without giving them access to your wireless network. Turn on the video streamer to Guest Mode and your guests who have Google Cast Ready applications and which are close to your Chromecast device (a maximum distance of 25 feet) will use it to cast the content from his/her device. If the person doesn’t succeed, he/she will have to enter a four-digit PIN on his/her device, after being displayed on the TV.
Android Selfie
The latest update of Chromecast for Android allows you to mirror your device to your TV and you can cast everything you see on your phone, to your TV. This option works with Android 4.4.2 (KitKat MR1) and later.
Watch movies with headphones
If someone is sleeping in the room where the TV is located, download the LocalCast app to your Android mobile device and plug in a pair of headphones into your phone/tablet and watch the movie on your TV with the sound coming from your Android device.
