Tips and Tricks for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

It’s no surprise that the brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is going to be an incredibly popular smartphone in 2015. We’ve been looking into the device and have uncovered some interesting tips and features that you might not know about already.
You might think the dual-edge display of the Galaxy S6 Edge would function and look exactly like the Galaxy Note Edge, but this isn’t true. The Galaxy Note Edge has a curved display that runs all the way down the length of the device. This meant that there was barely any room for a bezel or the frame on that side at all. It allowed Samsung to incorporate features in the Note Edge that simply aren’t possible on the S6 Edge. It was also pretty annoying for some users depending on how they typically held their phone. These annoyances should all be resolved with the S6 Edge, but it also loses some of that functionality.

Edge Screen Settings

Samsung has made it rather easy to access the features and functions of the Galaxy S6 Edge by putting them in the Quick Settings page. So all you have to do is swipe down from the top of the S6 Edge, tap on the right corner to bring up a list of all the Quick Settings buttons, and then scroll down to find the button that brings up the Settings menu for the Edge screen.

People Edge

Something that was shown off at MWC 2015 this year was the contacts shortcuts that Samsung brought with the Galaxy S6 Edge. This allows you to set some of your favorite contacts to their own color and those ‘tabs’ will now live in the Edge screen of the Galaxy S6 Edge. If you get a text, call, email, etc. from one of those people, you can quickly access it from the edge simply by swiping their color to the left. This brings up a summary of what they sent you (like a text or an email) and then gives you a couple of buttons so you can call them back or send your own text/email to them.

Edge Feeds

With the Galaxy S6 Edge not having a fully curved edge like the Galaxy Note Edge, some people had thought that Samsung was doing away with the Panel feature that many users had been looking forward to seeing. This feature has not been removed and you can still put things like Yahoo News feeds, sports scores, Twitter posts, and your email directly into the Galaxy S6 Edge. Samsung did, however, remove things like the ruler, but the Galaxy S6 Edge can still act as a scrolling ticker of information.

Switch Edges

With the Galaxy Note Edge, some people who are left-handed weren’t very comfortable with the edge screen being on the right. Since the Galaxy S6 Edge has a curved display on both sides, Samsung has allowed you to switch where the specific edge screen features sit. So you can have them on the right side or the left side, all depending on how you hold your device and which way you get the most use out of it. I love seeing customization features like this because it truly lets you use the device the way you want to.

Discreet Call Reject

Another Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge feature that you most likely have already seen is the ability to put the phone face-down on a table/desk and see the edge screen glow to indicate a call or notification is coming in. With the People Edge feature, seeing a certain color can help you to quickly and easily find out who is trying to contact you without even having to lift up the smartphone. Samsung has taken this a step further by allowing you to reject a phone call and send a preset message to the caller simply by pressing your finger on the heart rate sensor as the call is coming in.
Have you had a chance to get your hands on a Galaxy S6 Edge yet? What are your favorite unique features that Samsung has implemented into their 2015 flagship smartphone?
