The co-founder of Whatsapp in a recent press meet with many personalities, including the one from Facebook, confirmed that the iOS users may not have to wait long because the voice calling feature is being rolled out.
During the Facebook meet, a lot of developers took their time to explain about the upcoming features. While the company launched news for the popular social networking website, it was also the time when Oculus Rift developers spoke about persistent issues with virtual reality. The co-founder of Whatsapp didn’t have much to share about as he spoke at length about Android and the new features they have rolled out. He explained that the web version was something that the users were asking for a long time, which was finally rolled out.
Voice Calling for iOS and Windows Phone
The co-founder spent very less time with the media and towards the end he confirmed that users on iOS can expect Whatsapp to receive the voice calling feature real soon. He didn’t specify a release date for the same, but when everyone persisted with him to specify one; he said that the feature might come within several weeks. From the press meet, it has been rumored that towards the middle of the month of April, the voice calling ability will be opened for the iOS users.
There is no news on whether it is already in beta, but it is to be seen in action. Some users from Reddit and NeoGaf posted images of iPhone 6 with the feature enabled. It could be a select group of users, who are part of the beta channel.
Similarly, the Windows Phone version of Whatsapp is also rumored to receive the update in the month of May. It is going to be a solid wait, but Windows phones have always been the last in the list, because the number of users on the platform is really low. Most developers opine that it is not mandatory to focus on them first. But, they do agree that Android has the potential for growth and because of the huge user base available in it, majority of features are being rolled out to those on the Google platform first, before everyone else.
Those who have had the opportunity to experience voice calling on WhatsApp have commented that it sounds great for a first time and could become much better in months, when patch updates roll out to fix the issues.
