The Sony Xperia Z2 is an interesting, feature-packed device. Although it has been succeeded byXperia Z3, it’s younger and slightly more powerful sibling, many users still enjoy its massive 20.1-megapixel main camera, Android KitKat features (which is scheduled to be upgraded to Android Lollipop soon) and fast quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset.
Sony Xperia Z2 battery-saving tips and tricks
- Disable background data to save battery life. This will also lower your data consumption since it limits the amount of data that various applications are utilizing while you’re not using your device. Do it by heading to Settings > Data Usage > Wireless & Networks > Menu > then tick the check box next to “Restrict background data.”
- Adjust auto-sync settings of your apps to limit the frequency by which they update in-app information. This goes hand-in-hand with the previous tip; it will also decrease your data usage. Do it by navigating to Settings > Accounts > select your account name > then clear your preferred apps to disable to reduce auto-sync.
- Sony also has a unique, built-in feature called Stamina Mode to help conserve power. You can activate it on your Xperia Z2 by going to Settings > Power Management > then turn on Stamina Mode. Make sure that you allow some of your frequently used apps to be active in Standby as Stamina Mode will disable most apps running in the background.
- Activate Location-based Wi-Fi. This feature will turn your device’s Wi-Fi on when you are in a predetermined location, like your home or office. It will then turn it off automatically when you’re out of those locations to save battery life. Use it by heading to Settings > “More” > then activate Location-based Wi-Fi.
- 4G connectivity is fast but it is also takes a huge toll on the Z2’s processor, which in turn requires more power consumption. If you can get by with a slower connection or if the location you’re in doesn’t support 4G, then you should switch to a different mode like WCDMA. Do it by navigating to Settings > Wireless & Networks > tap on “More” > Mobile networks > Network mode > the choose WCDMA.
