Twitter is soon scheduled for an entire general makeover. There are host of new features and functionalities in the pipeline for Twitter that are set to make an arrival sometime next year. Apparently, these new changes will be based on video, direct messaging, alerts and notifications, and more. 

Twitter may be one of the top social networking sites out there, but it still faces a lot of competition from the likes of Facebook. Hence making new additions to the overall usability of the service neither seems like a rumor nor something illogical. Let alone the hidden ones.

But what are these hidden features everyone is talking about? And how does it alter the overall feel and look of the Twitter that we have known for so long? Here's a closer look. 

Tagging People 

Did you know that every time you add a new photo to a tweet, you can tag up to 10 people who are in the photo? Interestingly, these tags won't count against your 140 characters. You will find the tagging option just below the compose box for your tweet.

Twitter Via SMS

You can actively tweet via text messaging from your Twitter settings, and you'll receive a custom number where you can send tweets, reply to users, favorite, retweet, follow, unfollow, and more. There are the ones such as D [username] + message, GET [username] and more to make use of.

Bunch of Tweets Together 

Twitter allows its users to compose a custom timeline. This contains only the tweets you choose to include. These collections can be done via Tweetdeck, Twitter's free management dashboard app. Just add a new "Custom timeline" column to your Tweetdeck dashboard, and drag-and-drop the tweets you wish to add.

Mute Account

If you feel you are not really interested to know details from a certain account, rather than unfollowing someone, you could mute the account for as long as you'd like. This is helpful if you are looking to maintain a low profile online. Click on the "More" drop-down and choose "Mute" from the list of options.

Twitter Photo Collage With the Twitter photo collage, you can share up to four photos in a single tweet. When composing any, upload an image and then click on the "Add more" option to keep adding pics.
