Apple released iOS 8 last fall, along with the two new iPhones 6 and 6 Plus, but because it had some stability issues, the developers had to fix the glitches in order to extend the battery life, to solve the Bluetooth and WiFi problems and many more. Besides these small inconveniences, the iOS 8 has other advantages, new added features, although not all of them were promoted and we can consider them “hidden features”.
Apple’s business is going well and according to the stats, in 2014, the company had a record quarterly revenue of 74.6 billion dollars, selling 70 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices in a single quarter. Then, other previous iPhones were upgraded to iOS 8 and the “madness” began. The users explored this new operating system’s features and concluded that iOS is the best OS so far. However, it has some hidden features that will make your user experience even more exciting. We made a short list of the most interesting features that you’ll find very useful.
Widgets
They’re not the same as the widgets from Android devices, but at least you will be informed about the weather changes, you will be notified if you have any appointment etc. To have access to these widgets, go to the Notification Center’s Today view.
Notification responses
Until now, when you received notifications in iOS, you had to tap them to enter the application, or you flicked it to make it disappear. Now, you are allowed to drag down on the notification and you won’t need to leave your current application in order to respond. This option works perfectly with Apple’s applications, but it may be glitchy with other applications created by independent developers.
Automated Wish List
The iTunes Store wish list was introduced in iOS 7 and it allowed its users to make a list of applications, games, movies or music that they wanted to buy from Apple’s store. Now, the users have Siri and with it, they can search for an item, such as a song, then add it to the wish list.
“Hey Siri”
Since we mentioned Siri, this voice assistant works exactly like Android’s “OK, Google”, which takes voice commands and answers to different questions. The iOS users can say “Hey, Siri” and the voice assistant will start automatically, but only if the device is connected to a power source.
Scan your Credit Card
If you redeem iTunes gift cards, you use your iPhone’s camera to take a photo of your card, which means that you don’t need to enter details manually. The same thing you can do with Credit Cards and you can make payments in Safari.
Sending audio messages
Instead of typing, you can send a message with a voice recording. To record a message, tap and hold the microphone icon which you’ll see on the right of the compose field, flick it to record the message, then flick it up to send it in Messages.
Finding the last location
Apple introduced a new addition to the Find My iPhone feature, which will send the last known location of the device, before it will finally “die”. The location will be sent to Apple and if you’ll log into your iCloud account and use the Find My iPhone feature, you will see the last place where your iPhone was, before its battery was drained.
