There is no surprise in saying that WhatsApp is now the #1 mobile messaging applications on the market despite the Operating system. The main reason for its increasing popularity in India is the limit that is imposed by the TRAI on the number of SMS messages being sent per day. The Indian mobile users won't be able to send more than 200 text messages per day (per SIM) and this limitation made the youngsters search for an alternative way to send SMS to their buddies. Their search ended at WhatsApp, thanks to the wonderful features like text messaging, picture messaging, audio/video messaging and even voice calls.
However, not many know that the WhatsApp is free just for the 1st year and you'll need to pay a minimal fee of $0.99 or Rs.60 every year for the renewal. It is a very small amount and I request all to pay for the WhatsApp license and support the developer. The trick I've mentioned below is only for those who can't pay for the extended license.
Method 1: Trick to Extend WhatsApp License for Free
This is the most recommended method to extend the expiry date of WhatsApp for free.
- From your Smartphone, open the WhatsApp.
- Go to Settings > Account.
- Select 'Delete my Account'.
Note that it will delete all your message history and so it is advised to take a backup of your WhatsApp by copying the entire 'WhatsApp' folder using any 'File Explorer' app. Knowhow to recover deleted files from WhatsApp.
- In the next step, you should enter your mobile number in the text field for confirmation and press 'Delete my Account'.
- Once the account was deleted, open the WhatsApp again and create a new account with the same mobile number.
- Next, go to Settings > Account > Payment info. There you'll find that your WhatsApp expiry date has been extended for another year.
By following this 'account deletion' method, you'll be able to use WhatsApp for another year. You can also 'uninstall' and 'reinstall' WhatsApp to extend your license. However, since, the motto of both the methods is the same i.e., removing your history and registering you as a new user, you can follow the 'account deletion' method to make the process simpler.
Method 2: Extend WhatsApp Expiry Date for Free
For some unknown reasons, a few people have failed to extend their WhatsApp expiry date using the above method. If you're one among them, then you can try this method and easily upgrade your WhatsApp license.
P.S: For this trick. You'll need a second mobile number which was not used before for creating the WhatsApp account.
- Open WhatsApp on your mobile device.
- Go to Settings > Account > Change Number.
- Click 'Next' to continue.
- Now, you'll find two text fields where you'll need to enter the old mobile number in the first field and a new number in the second field. However, ensure that this new number is not registered with WhatsApp before.
- Click 'Done'.
- Now, repeat the steps 1 to 5 but this time, enter the new mobile number in the first field and the old one in the second field (in step 4).
- Click 'Done'.
That's it! Your WhatsApp validity is now extended for another year for free. You can check the same by going to Settings > Account > Payment info.
P.S: If you’re an active user of WhatsApp, then I request you to purchase the license to support the developer for running costs.
