Android 5.1 is already out, with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 ready for the update.
Other phones will follow, with the latest Samsung’s flagships the S6 and the S6 edge expected to get the update within the first wave. The new OS by Google has many new features, but most importantly, Google has done a great job improving the security of the system.
Screen Pinning
Screen Pinning is arguably one of the best features you can use to protect your phone and make it safer from inquiring friends, family and colleagues. The feature keeps your smartphone safe and secure when someone else is using your device. The feature locks your handset into an application or a folder. This way, when you allow someone to use your phone, he/she won’t be able to exit the said application without entering a PIN. The screen pinning is very easy to set up protecting you from people who like to snoop around. To find the feature, enter Settings and then go to Security.
Other Security Measures
Android 5.1 brings many more security features and measures that help you protect your smartphone. Another feature that helps you significantly is Device Protection, a feature that works similar with Apple’s protection for the iPhone. Device protection is a nifty feature that makes sure your data is secure, even if your phone is stolen or lost. Device protection locks your phone, and makes anyone else unable to access it unless they have/know your Google account and your login details. Device protection stays even if the phone goes through factory reset.
Android 5.1 New Features
Aside from improved security, the new OS by Google brings many features. For starters, Android 5.1 brings back Silent Mode, but it is not renamed into Priority Mode and works differently. The quick settings menu is also changed, with new animations and tweaks that make it look very different than before. One of the most underrated improvements to the Android 5.1 is the support for dual-SIM and improved Sound quality.
