After the bitter taste remaining, and the Windows 8 poor users’ response, Microsoft has now unveiled Windows 10.
Microsoft wants to upgrade and rectify flaws in Windows 8 to make Windows 10 a perfect killer OS for laptop and desktop computer users and the big enterprise users who were not pleased with Windows 8 Metro interface.
Some of the windows 10 new features and adds on from previous version include;
Start menu and the UI.
There has been a constant debate over the switch from start menu in Windows 7 to Start screen in Windows 8. No doubt, the start screen raised a lot of concerns and proved not to be fit for laptops as well as workstations. Fortunately enough, the new Windows 10 comes with unobtrusive Start menu that is accessed by clicking the Window button.
The other notable change in the UI focuses on multitasking. First, Windows 10 support virtual desktop (should not be confused with remote desktops). The virtual desktop can be used to group things like applications into a separate desktop. Windows 10 also offers ability to snap windows to the edges of your screen. Instead of splitting screen into equal half like in Windows 7 or Windows 8, you can now split screen into quarters- this feature will mostly benefit desktop users.
The PowerShell and command.
In Windows 10, selecting text and doing simple copy and paste into Windows command line can introduce tabs, line breaks and unexpected and inconsistent characters. When you paste special characters, for example, slanted quotes into the Windows command line, they will be cleaned up and also converted their command-line safe equivalents.
Another major improvement is the ability to manage network switches from PowerShell. With Windows 10, you can manage zip archive files. Just like Windows 7 Start menu, Windows 10 Start menu offers fast access to the apps and files.
Virtual desktops.
With windows 8, you could only keep one desktop per monitor, but with the upgraded Windows 10, you have the option to use virtual desktops. With the virtual desktops, you can switch as many desktops as you want. This feature has been present on Linux window manager for a while but now it is native in Windows 10.
Desktop interface overhaul.
Windows 10 Desktop will also receive graphical overhaul- this will make it flatter and a thinner window borders
New task view button.
Windows 10 comes with a new button that pops up Task View interface. This significantly improves the multitasking ability for novice users- the new button enables users to quickly switch between the open files and fast access to the desktops you create.
Snap enhancement.
With the new quadrant layout, you can have 4 applications snapped on the same screen. In addition, Windows 10 will also show other programs and apps running for enhanced snapping. Windows 10 can be tiled vertically and horizontally.
No doubt, there is a lot of improvement from Windows 10. Has said earlier, Microsoft want to correct the flaws in Windows 8 and appeal business with Windows 10- it has many features for enterprise such as protection corporate data and customized store. Fortunately, these features are not only beneficial to the enterprise, but also other users.
