WhatsApp Now Lets You Know if Your Messages Have Been Read

The update is not huge but is definitely a useful one for people who just wait hours without knowing whether the recipient has read the sent messages or not.
A new update has now rolled out for WhatsApp, on both the iOS and Android platforms which makes it easy for you to know if your messages have been read.
The double tick mark that you usually see on the messaging panel will now be highlighted with a blue color if the messages are opened and read. For a long time, not only you but many other people assumed that messages are read whenever the double check mark shows. But, it actually was never meant to indicate any such thing and it just means that the message has been received on the other end. If there is a single tick, it means it has reached WhatsApp servers and double tick refers that it is received by the person.
Updated FAQ
In the newly updated frequently answered questions, WhatsApp has confirmed that the blue colored tick mark will add a new layer of information to users now. In case it shows blue and the recipient doesn’t reply, it just denotes that they are either busy or not interested to talk to you. The new highlight mark makes it easy to know this instantly. There’s also another option where you have to long press over the message which will allow you to access a message info screen. The information screen provides detailed information on the time it got received, read or if it is an audio or video message it is played.
Privacy Issues Prevail
Even though, the blue highlight mark on WhatsApp is going to make it easy to know if it has been read, it is another privacy issue. For now, the developers have not provided any option to opt out of this feature and every sender will be able to know if the message is read or not. In the future, we expect there may be an option that will allow you to opt out of it but it’s not confirmed at the moment.
The VoIP calls over WhatsApp are also under progress and will soon be rolled out. If rumors are to be believed, it could be out as early as January or February next year. The feature is in the pipeline but is yet to be confirmed by the developers which might take a couple more months.
