The latest update for iOS brings bug fixes, better optimization for older devices such as the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 and other fixes.

Install the Update from Your Handset
For this route, you need to go to Settings. There, in the General tab, click on ‘Software update’. Click and the download should start automatically. You won’t have to wait long. Update via iTunes
Before you start the update, make sure to back up your device using iTunes. Also, you must use the latest version of iTunes, which you can check in ‘About’, and from there go to ‘Check for updates’.
– Launch the program on either your PC or Mac
– Now, plug in your handset
– Go to the top right navigation
– Click the option ‘Check for update’, which can be found under the ‘Summary’ tab
– Once the update is recognized, click ‘Download and install’ in the menu that pops up. Click on ‘Agree’ for terms and conditions
– Leave your handset plugged in, enjoy, and after it is done, reboot. After the reboot, your device will run on iOS 8.1.1.

Aside from the numerous bug fixes, the new update brings an added bonus for users. According to reports, users who have updated their devices got 500 MB of free space. The space opened after the installation of the new iOs 8.1.1.
While it is unknown where does that space comes from, a good guess is that is from the cleared cache and temporary files. For users with 16 GB of memory space, every MB counts.
