The editing video is actually the final process that happens before a video gets to the final stage of being finished. By editing a video you can cut, add effects, add some music to the background, merge a part of the video with another one etc.

If you are somehow new to this domain, we will give you today some tips and tricks that will help you make some great videos.
Making a separate directory for a project
When you are about to edit a big project for the first time, it is easier and simpler to just ditch all the files into a single folder. This way it will be easier for you to manage all the short clips that you have to merge with each other. Also, you will want to name the project folder somehow, in case you are working on multiple projects.
You can also add some more folders in the project folder such as Graphics, Photos, Music, Sound, etc. This way, you will be very organized and it will be easier for you to find the things you need. If you have the time, you can also add a description to each file, so it will be even easier for you to know what’s happening in the specific video.
Having an organized project folder saves a lot of time and you will notice how important is to waste a few minutes to organize things, instead of wasting hours to find them on your entire computer. This will make your project a lot more organized and will keep things easily accessible.
Storing a project in two different drives
While this mind sound silly, it is always good to keep a project saved on two different drives. As soon as you stop working on a project in the specific day, try to copy it on a USB flash drive or another hard disk drive that it’s on your PC. Believe us, you don’t want to waste hours of work just because you didn’t spare 2-3 minutes to copy the project to another driver.
Bring in the action and ditch the boring moments
When you are editing a video you want to compress all the great moments from it and ditch the boring moments, as nobody want to see those. This is why you’re editing the video after all, it’s not about to cut and merge files together, it’s about having imagination and to compress the best moments into it. For example, when you are about to edit a wedding video, you will have hours and hours of videos, which you will need to compress in a 2-4 hours movie. Believe us it’s not easy at all!
Choosing the right editing application
Depending on what you are about to edit, you will get from simple editors such as YouTube video editor, Windows Movie Maker or any kind of simple video editing applications. If you need a more complex video editing program that allows you to use multiple layer videos, then you should go for Adobe Creative Cloud’s Premiere Pro, which is used by professional video editors. It is always good to start with applications such as: Final Cut Pro X, Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere, as they have great options but at the same time you can do some professional videos with them.
Using an extra layer when interviewing someone
If in an interview, you see that the person takes a lot of breaks between his/her ideas, it is best to cut those pauses and add another video layer. This way, nobody will see that the video and that the fact the person made a lot of pauses between ideas.
For this, you will need applications such as Final Cut or Adobe Premiere.
Using a second sound source
Even if your camera comes with a microphone, it is better to have a second source of audio, such as an external microphone that you will use. This way, you will have a second sound and you will be able to use the better quality one when you are editing the video. After that you can sync the sounds with Adobe Premiere CC and you will easily switch between each other whenever you need it.
But again, you will need some good editing video applications for that, and YouTube Video editor or Windows Movie Maker will never help.
Using multiple cameras
Another way to hide the pauses that are in an interview is by using a second camera, filming something happening on that specific event. This way you will be able to cut the “ums” and “uhs” from an interview and while doing that you can put another video, so that nobody will notice the cuts. Another way to make cuts is to make them when a beat of the music happens.
Telling the story
It is very important to have a beginning, middle and an end of a “story” in a video. This is actually what you are doing while editing a video, telling a story. If you mess these three things up, you will end up telling a bad story where you start with the middle of the action, then telling how it began and after that how it end.
With practice, you will understand more about all the things we told you today and you will most likely become a professional editor.
